I was skeptical about all the hype about the Venom Shock. I was soooo wrong. Kasey at Bowlers Depot punched one up for me and i shot 289 straight out of the gate! This is definitely my favorite ball. It never leaves my bag. So versatile on variety of conditions.
Simply put Motiv's best benchmark ever and one of a handful of the best benchmark balls of all time by any company. This should be the first Motiv ball anyone buys.

This Venom Shock is absolutely crazy to handle for rev dominant players. However, when you get the hang of it, it is incredible the results you get.
I can mostly use this venom shock in sport shots and it has saved me on many occasions in Long Sport shots when I have to move down from my Jackal Ghost.

Yes, this is a smooth ball when there's a glob of oil on the lane that goes 35 to 40 down it.
Another yes, it still hooks. A lot. In fact it hooks a lot more than expected.
My pap is 4 3/4"> x 5/8"^. Axis rotation is 15° and axis tilt is 10°^. Those measurements were taken off a venom cobra drilled 4" x 20°. The pin is up and out right. I will use this ball as a comparison.
Venom shock was drilled 5" x 20°. Pin about 5/8" above fingers with slightly more middle than ring.
This is what i refer to as a good skid/flip ball. The ball flared 2" in the oil. I am not making that up. And in the dry it flared over 6". Again, i am not making that up. What this means is the ball is looking for friction because it wont create it in the midlane while reading it. And when and where it finds friction, it's gonna show you. Clear as day. So it loves oil to keep the ball clean and smooth for about 30 40 ft, and it really loves friction and the dry area of the lane. Possibly one of the strongest mid range balls i ever rolled off friction.
Now compared to the venom cobra.
Yes, there is a whole inch in pin distance to pap.
But these are also two different balls. 2 different cores 2 different covers. The venom cobra flared a max 3" in oil and flared about 5 1/2" in the dry. Both balls had no problem reaching the break point on the same line. Response off the friction was milder with the cobra. While the shock's response was quicker and more deliberate which resulted in less potential deflection than the cobra in the pocket. If the venom cobra is too weak in the pocket but i want to keep the same line i can with the shock (give or take two boards in). Its a great companion ball for wet dry and short oil with the cobra. Or even with the shock pearl or even the ripcord. This ball is capable of filling lots of slots in a bowlers arsenal. Remember this ball loves friction. Once friction shows its ugly face on tougher patterns, immediately start using this ball. Find just enough oil inside so you can chase the oil in a little at a time and without sacrificing angle back to the pocket because of what it does when put in friction.
Example: I bowled a trios tournament with this exact venom shock. Lined up just right of 20 a bit at the arrows. And snapping hard anywhere from 8 board and out from the start. (Clearly a house pattern). Over the course of four games across 8 lanes with 6 people to a pair each, i moved my feet left 12 boards. My line at finish was inside 25 at the arrows and i chased the breakpoint in to the 9 10 11 area. However with the angle it mysteriously creates my breakpoint seemed irrelevant. I could have missed to 4 board and beyond and the ball wouldn't care on a house shot.
Final results i averaged 241 for a whole day. In slow motion video, I watched the pin on the ball 40ft down lay the core on its side from center left to dead left in two full rotations. That's got to be the fastest I've ever seen a ball do that.
I love the ball but i think there's more to it than what people rated it as. One of the most versatile skid flips I've seen in a very long time.
Buy one and you won't regret it.

As the heading says my second Venom Shock. I love the fact that you can play the shim or float it through the oil or polish it and play straighter with the Shock. This continues to be one of the most versatile balls that Motiv has in their lineup.
